Default Who's had their 2.7 triptronic tranny go?

Bought mine last summer with 115k. No indication of a problem with the tip. Couple months ago tried to reverse on a slight incline. No go. Engine revved, but no reverse momentum. While in for 120k service drained a little tranny fluid, and it was black. For now the problem only manifest in reverse on an incline. Level or downhill there are no problems, and no problems noticed going forward. Shop manager told me probably something like 3.5K for a rebuilt tranny, or GULP 7.5k for a new one. Has anyone here been through this? What did you do? What did it cost? How was the result? I was halfway expecting problems from the turbo's, but not this, sigh.
