It's probably your front inner CV joints. I've seen 3 cars with them creating plenty of vibration during accelleration and decelleration. The easiest way to check them would be to lay down and grab ahold of your axle and try to wiggle it while your car is on the ground. If there is any movement one of the axle joints is definately in need of replacing. Hope that helps.

Any updates on this problem? I have a 2003 A4 Cabrio front trackCVT with the 1.8T engine having the same vibrations under acceleration at any given rpm.

Thanks.

Default Same Problem

I believe I have the same problem. It seems like the vibration is coming from the mid-rear of the car. I'm pretty sure it is from either the center bearing, universal joint, or the driveshaft end bearings. This site may be of interest to you:

I just purchased a 1999 A4 with 190000 miles on it. I googled a4 vibration which led me to this forum. I absolutely love the car! I also have a 1992 100 Quattro.

Default Same Thing!

My allroad is in the shop as we speak for the same issue. 2001, 70,000 miles. Has just recently gotten worse. Vibrates now @ 60 to about 70 like the car has come apart. In town, at low speeds, no issue. Above the those speeds, a bit of a 2 second vib but not bad. Thought it was the tranny, but to no avail... Hope its a tire balance issue. But from the passenger compartment, it sounds and feels likes garbage. My ford diesel truck has a smoother ride than that!

Default Common Issue

Ok.... I don't know what happened but this is the second time this thread has restarted on this forum. I posted this last time but that was awhile ago. It is almost always (90%) the front inner CV joints. It almost always starts at about 90k -110k and it only happens at certain speeds and gets worse during acceleration.

If you are somewhat mechanically inclined this is a relatively simple procedure. Go online and buy some NEW not rebuilt but NEW front Axles. They should run you about $150 - $200 each. (Raxles are definately the best and they come with gloves and a new bolt for $200) The axles just slide in and out of the front diff. easily and it will take you about two hours to do both. Keep in mind that one side is slightly shorter than the other.

If you go to a shop it will cost about $400 - $500 a side and you need to get both done.

So does anyone have a verdict? This JUST happened to me for the first time, at first I thought my tires just havent warmed up to the road and had a flat spot but sure enough it only got worse. I noticed after I let the car sit and come back it took a few minutes of driving to come back into full effect, Im going tomorrow to my tire shop and see of a weight might have fallen off a wheel but if not I guess I'll be taking it to a mechanic...
If any one has found out what the problem is please let me know, thanks

i really hope everyone that post here listens to me. this has happened to me and I found the problem. when I coasted the car was fine but when i accelerated the car acted like it was misfiring to the point that the car was shaking like it had a unbalanced driveshaft or tire. for one the check engine light came on. i checked all of my coil packs and they were fine I definitely was getting a misfire though. It turned out to be that one of the electronic control modules or ecm was bad they are located on the airbox of the allroad there are two of them I would buy one and replace/test each one until the problem goes away. make sure you use the diode grease or it will prematurely go bad. and make sure the ecm has a good contact with the metal or it will also cause premature burnout. I hope this helps it took me about three hrs to find this problem I hope it saves you time let me know if this helps.

Did anyone here find that the that axles fixed it, or the electronics were the problem. I have the same vibration under acceleration around 60mph, and even under. I have had this issue about a year, since I purchased the car, but it has become worse since my front airbags started leaking. So, I have two issues. I put 3 oz (90ml) of stop leak in my front airbags using a syringe. This seemed to fix the problem, but then if left on the normal height settings, it would drop to the bump stops when parked. Then as it began leaking more, I believe what happens on the highway is the pump overheats and shuts off due to having to run continually to maintain the standard height for above 52mph on the highway. When the pump stops, the front lowers and the vibration becomes intolerable.
I added a little more than one more ounce (12ml) to each bag. I can see where the stop-leak has been running down the backside of the bag from the leak. For now the suspension is staying up on the highway and my allroad is drivable again. From what I have read here, some have had this same problem, and I would like to know if anyone corrected the vibration by replacing their front drive axles?
I raised my car, and wiggled around the axels. My divers side axle will move side to side, so I think it is bad.

Default vibrator

My vibration ended up being the cv joints. if you pull your front wheels up on a jack you can tell real quick by moving the wheel back and forth with you hand.
hope that helps
