Tips needed for engine and trans out, drop subframe
I am in the process of removing engine and transmission of my 2002 Allroad manual 2.7T.
Sofar:
- disconnected rear shaft
- disconnected downpipes from exhaust
- pulled ABS sensor cable, disconnect pad wear cable; can't loosen the brake lines, need to cut and splice back together later
- strut top mount nuts (in engine bay)
- ECU and all connectors
- firewall connectors
- disconnected A/C lines
- intake box, MAF, corrugated intake hose, Y pipe, intercooler pipe, 2 pipes going to TB
- upper and lower radiator hose
- disconnected transmission cooler line (surprised that the manual has them)
- disconnected passenger side heater hose (puh!); how to get to the driver side connector?
I could use a few pointers:
1) necessary to bring front into 'service position' or even remove?
2) how best to disconnect the shifter linkage from the transmission? Can it be done easily from inside/top, or easier from 'down under'?
3) how and where to disconnect power steering?
4) other sensors (and where) that need to be disconnected (I assume the spaghetti next under power steering reservoir cover has a few that need to go?)
5) is it recommended or helpful to drop the engine/trans/subframe first a bit to reach some of the stuff?
Also, haven't found a good DIY for the process. Any pointers?

same motor, same concept. I used this guide to pull the motor and tranny on my B5 S4 auto, and was able to do so successfully. I didn't have to drop the subframe, but you do need to put it in service mode
