Default newbie, in the market...

Considering an AllRoad for the wife. Been doing a lot of reading and getting up to speed on some of the issues plauging these cars.

This one looks real nice but has tons of miles...

Wondering if it's worth it? In any rate I'm going to keep looking and reading up on this forum just so I don't ask any questions that haven't been covered already. The search button is our friend right?!

I wouldn't worry about upsetting this forum by posting questions. There isn't as much history here to search and I think a lot of us are relatively new to the allroad. (some veterans are here of course)

I'd steer clear of the ebay car. My gut says the type of guy who'd do that to the wheels wasn't the type to take it easy on the car. No rationale, but its what the gut says.

Are you in IN? I'm in new England and the allroad prices tend to drop a bit when the weather warms up and the snow has melted. Searching in the spring could be a good thing.

Actually no, I'm in Michigan.

Yeah the one on ebay looks nice but I'm also making assumptions of it myself. Like I said it's really for my wife. I bought her a BMW 540i last year and although it's a really nice car we find that with two kids it's not the most practical car.Because of wanting to keep the condition of the car I'm also storing it for the winter. So she drives the Lexus that we also have...not a very good winter car either.

Of course every car has it's issues here and there, some more serious than others. The AllRoadseems to have some pretty expensive issues to deal with if not taken cared of properly. So I'm still looking around and haven't really solidified my decision yet.

thanks.

Wheels look somewhat hideous to me. maybe its just me.

Like incrementalg said, I would too stay away from ebay cars, i'm sure there are "clean" cars, but why risk?

I've seen someone who bought a car off ebay and it broke down couple days after he got it.

Hmm, Ithought about smoked taillight for my AR but i just changed my mind lol

I'd say anyone with a shop that nice, along with a couple of Indy cars, is my kind of car owner. However, not sure if I'd want a high-mileage 2001 unless it had a very well documented history and a PPI.

If you're looking for a wagon, maybe consider the A6 over the allroad because of suspensionwoes with the allroad. That being said, I love my allroad. I hated looking at them on the road and swore up and down I'd never, ever own one.Mywife, on the other hand, loved the allroad and really wanted one for kid toting and winter adventuring.

While waiting for the 10k checkup on my A4, I took a walk around the dealer lot. I spotted an allroad way the hell inthe back of a secondarylot behind the dealership. I took a walk aroundto check it out and itdidn't have a scratch on it. Went back in and asked the sales guy if I could take it for a spin. After 20 minutes my mind was changed on the allroad. A little haggling and 3 days later, we picked it up.

I won't pretend that I'm doing serious off roading in it, but it'smore than proven itselfon a couple of occasions(snow and flooding en route to daycare pickup)

if you buy on ebay, only buy from a dealership that has store online. And buy warrenty. I bought mine through autotrader. It was at a dodge dealership in CT. I bought 2 year warrenty and had to use it the day i got the car, seal was already bad.

Just be careful.

that looks like a pretty sweet car for the price.
looks like it may be due for a timing belt change. I have about the same mileage and getting ready to do mine.
