Default Curt Trailer Hitch for Allroad

All,

I have a 2004 Allroad and want to mount a 2" receiver hitch to mate to my Thule bike carrier. Do any of you have experience with the Curt receiver hitch? When I looked at the Audi hitch it was extremely complicated to mount and wouldn't work with a standard US-type receiver. This Curt model is much simpler.

Does it work? It it as simple as a straight forward bolt on installation?

Thanks.

Thats basically the same hitch as the Audi hitch, same mounting points and everything. The audi hitches in the states are made to work with any US spec recievers so what ever works for you, im sure the instructions for mounting the audi one were made by a german so its probably more complicated on paper than it really is. Thanks. The Audi receiver hitch I saw at my local dealer used a receiver that was mounted vertically behind the bumper. The hitch was shaped like an 'L' and slid up into the receiver. Definitely not usuable for my application.

I mounted a Curt hitch on my allroad and it works great. I use it for a thule bike rack as well and drove with it on for about 500 miles and it hardly moved.

Was this the Class 1 (1 1/4") or Class 2 (2") hitch? If it is the 2" do you know the model #? I have only been able to find a 1 1/4" receiver hitch which would require an adapter to mount my bike rack.

Thanks.

Did you have to drill holes or are they already there? How long did it take for you to install the hitch? Also, when the hitch installation is complete does the silver plate at the base of the bumper still fit? Just curious as I am planning to install my new hitch this weekend.

Thanks much.
