Audi A6 Allroad Limp mode problem
Hi I was recommended to join this site to try and find a solution to my problem. I will attempt to keep the information as straightforward as possible.
The problem I have been having for some time now is that at certain speeds and situations the car will automatically go into limp mode for no apparent reason. This often happens at about 70mph while in fifth or 55mph while in fourth as just going up an incline which can be shallow in climb or after deceleration as coming up behind a slower car.
My car is a 2.4 diesel 5 speed Tiptronic and if I remember! I can drop down to lower gear and with extra revs the problem does not occur. Therefore if I drive it like a sports car all the time the problem will hardly occur. However I have found slowing down after a fast acceleration can also cause the problem even while on the flat.
After going into limp mode I can pull over turn off the engine and restart with no problems at all. There appears to be no fault code retained by the car and so diagnostics appear to be very hard to prove there is a fault.
My beloved car is currently in a local garage and they have tried running tests to discover the problem on computer diagnostics. There tests have shown up Air mass meter problem but he is not convinced it is as other people have said other things might be causing this issue.
Can anyone guide me to where to look or find a possible solution, or maybe you know of this problem and can give me advice. Any help or advice would be very welcome just now. Many thanks

I'm assuming by limp mode you mean the nothing happens when you press the accelerator. I had that happen on my '03 2.7T Allroad accelerating on an inclined entrance ramp or driving on hilly roads. My mechanic told me to try using only Shell or Sunoco gas for a while. That was about three years ago. Not a problem since the switch. Not sure about diesel though.

Using only Shell
Thanks for your reply allroad 76, sounds amazing your problem went away just by changing fuel companies. By Limp I mean no use of accelerator at all, but if on motorway it will try to keep crusing at speed when problem occured then will slow down on hills. As it is Tiptronic I have to stop switch off then on and suddenly no problem again!! Very frustrating. I have been told it might be too much on the turbo and to turn actuator down a turn as it might be over boosting however I will keep fingers crossed.

Hi Allroad76
not solved as yet, the garage owners wife became very ill with cancer and is now awaiting the end. So took car back and as yet have not had time to sort it out. August is our very busy period and so 7 days a week is draining. My biggest problem is what fuel to try as live miles away from anything decent in the diesel line. But definitely will give it a try even though others are not so convinced on other sites I have posted on. Thanks for your posts. Appreciate
