Hi. I hope that someone can help me. I have a 2001 6-speed manual allroad. I bought it from carmax 4 months ago with 70,000miles. I have loved this car but am having a new problem. Last week, my airbag light came on and stayed on. At the same time, my blinkers stopped blinking. I assumed I had an electrical problem. I took it to the dealership and they said that I needed a new hazard switch and that my entire airbag module is fried. Actually, the mechanic said it was a "brain fart," so that did not give me a lot of useful information. Basically, they are telling me that it will cost $1300 to replace the entire airbag module. Has anyone heard of this happening? How would something like this occur? How can I tell that this is what is really wrong, and not some more minor electrical issue?

airbag module?? I doubt it sounds more like a wiring problem (airbag light cant come on if main module is shot)

 

these units dont just fry take my word for it
