Default 2000 S4 Gumball Car?

I searched this page and from what I can tell this has not been brought up yet.

Have you guys seen this 2000 Audi s4 Stage III gumball car on ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Audi-...QQcmdZViewItem

Seems like a awesome car, some concerning mechanical notes at the bottom of the listing. Problem with 1st/2nd gear and low compression.

What are the thoughts on this one? Is it just rode hard and put up wet and probably near the end of its life?

Can you re-ring this car from the bottom without pulling the motor?

How much is a tranny job to fix the 1st 2nd?

Thanks

Honestly the car is a bit overpriced. I bought mine for less than that with half the miles and all documentation(stg II minus downpipes). Not to mention this one wasa test-mule beaten across the country. You'd be better off pulling the motor and going through it, new crank and rod bearings, new rings, have the heads checked and decked maybe ported, cam seals, tensioners, T-belt, etc. Trans - look at www.stasisengineering.com for their rebuilt trannys. Plus the starting issue. Think long an hard...

I would look around for a different car with good compression.

That car was dogged hard! The motor needs to be pulled for just about everything.

$14k for a STG III car is fine, so is low $20's for a well sorted one.

This one might be a skip, unless you don't mind doing some more work on it.

Thanks for all the input. I had similar thoughts that this would be a good deal at like 14k maybe 15k but at 22k just not worth it. If anyone sees a stage II or Stage III B5 with lower miles floating around for sale let me know. jonleake@gmail.com

I would buy a stock S4 and do the work myself so I know it was done right.

Only problem with that is that you spend about 15K in parts plus install. Where if you can find a good Stg III or II+ car it really only seems to cost about 5K more than a Stock S4
