Default HELP! Oil change, oil light, ticking engine! threw a code! Just bought 2002 A4

Not an hour after i bought the car the oil light came on said low oil. Engine was ticking very loud. The owner had the oil changed just before i picked the car up. If anything, oil level seems high. I have read many different posts of oil sludge. It's fine after sitting for awhile but continues to happen everytime i drive it. This never happened to the previous owner, i'm suspicious of the oil change. Wrong oil? to much oil? My oil fill cap wasnt even screwed on all the way. It also threw a code ' camshaft position sensor '. What should i do?

1.8 t 2002 79,000

UPDATE!!! Oil is 1" above the full mark! Maybe a little more. Is this the cause?

UPDATE!!! Pick up tube replaces, full engine flush, sludge cleaned out of top of engine. 8,900 car turned into 10,150!

4.2 qts for the 1.8T engine. Dealership by me recommended 5w-40 synthetic with the oversize oil filter

4.2 qts takes the oil to the top of the cross hatch marks on the dipstick. sounds like someone put 5 qts in it

Agreed I would replace the oil pump and pick-up pipe with strainer for sure and I would do it soon before you cause major problems with the engine.

ya when my oil pickup tube went it threw codes, ran really rough, oil pressure light was on, and worst of all, the engine started to sound like a deisel. i caught it just in time for no turbo damage but driving more than 20 miles with an oil deprived turbo could be very costly in the near future

If you're also throwing camshaft position sensor code then I'd HIGHLY recommend replacing the timing belt. It's the first thing you need to do after buying any 1.8T engined Audi

Default Timing belt

I havent changed it yet. I have only had the car for 6 weeks. I do have the paperwork to get it done for free do to the class action on the timing belts. I got the history records on the car and the camshaft position sensor has been replaced before. The car just turned 80,000. I was going to wait another 10,000 before changing the timing belt. You recommend doing it now?

What else should i have replaced/fixed while the front end is torn apart? I am going to replace the water pump. Anything else?

Nice car BTW. I have the same exact one. 2002 A4 1.8t Quattro manual. Color is Champagne.

The class action does not mean you get the belt changed for free. Sorry to bust your bubble. At the same time you need to do the tensioner. Actually just look at the kit on ECS tuning, and thats what you need to replace.
