Front and middle differential fluid change 02 A6 2.7
Hi everyone ! I have recently read the DIY to change the rear diff fluid but does anyone have advice or instructions regarding the middle and front differentials ?? I suspect the front wouldn't be too bad but the middle ???

middle is your trany not a diff. That is a PITA you need a vagcom, 9liters of fluid( takes a little over 6) jack stands and a weekend to do it. Measure and save everything you take out.
Front has a 8mm allen you can reach it easiest by removing the front wheel, rotor and caliper on passenger side. Then you will need a good allen socket possibly one with a ball head on an extension with a breaker bar. Once it's out you need to suck the fluid out. There is no bottom drain on it.
Rear drains out at bottom plug, but open the side first because if you can't get that out and you have already drained the gear oil, your screwed.

The 1996, 1997 ( 1998 wagon ) A6 Quattro with C4 chassis and 2.8 L 12 valve engine have the center differential directly above the two catalytic converters. When the gear lube leaks out through the worn propeller shaft flange seal, the catalytic converters have to be removed to check or add gear lube.
You should get a copy of the Audi shop service manual DVD or do a search of the forum.

Then in their catalog look for a 2002 A6 Quattro 2.7L, then TORSEN DIFFERENTIAL / FLANGE SHAFT / FOR 5-SPEED AUTOMATIC GEARBOX / 2.4/2.7 ltr / 3.0ltr. / quattro. They have picture of the center differential. However, this site is for the European Audi, so it may be different for the USA models.
