Default Just bought an Audi A6

Hello,

I just bought a 99 Audi A6 2.8 Quattro for 1400 with 155k. The car radio wasn't working so I couldn't use the OBDII port to diagnose the check engine light. I finally got power to the radio but its in safe mode. I had these 6 check engine codes:

1857
1545
1626
0102
1300
1600

I reset the check engine codes and the one that keeps coming back is 1545. The car feels very sluggish. It also does not have reverse.. You start the car and it dies right away unless you rev it until it warms up. The car also jerks around back and forth when you take off. What could be wrong? Could it be a bad transmission? I was told there is a sensor on the transmission that could of gotten wet and cause reverse to malfunction. The previous owner stated he replaced the tranmission computer because it was filled with water but I believe its the original cause it was still wet.. I bought this car as a fixer upper so my fiancee can drive it. Please let me know.

Thanks

If you bought this car for your fiancee, I hope you like the bachelor life!

You should start by removing the source of the water that is getting the TCU wet - usually the drain holes under the battery get clogged. Then, replace the TCU again.

But, that will not have anything to do with your cold start problem which is more than likely your water temperature sensor. Search on that and you can find the instructions for the replacement of it.

Good luck,

Bob
