While driving on the highway a rock hit my passenger side mirror and cracked the painted portion of of the assembly. I ordered a used side mirror assembly and I'm in the process of trying to disassemble it because I only want to replace the painted section and not the entire thing but I'm having some trouble.

Has anyone ever taken one apart before? I removed the two screws on the bottom but it doesn't want to come off. Are there any hidden screws? Say behind the mirror itself? Whats the trick?

First you'll want to pop out the mirror. Turn it as far to one side as possible so you can get your fingers behind it. Then you can pop out the lower piece after you've taken out the two screws.

For the painted housing, there's a screw that connects it to the piece that was holding the mirror. Take that out, and then you can maneuver the housing off and replace it.
